Homebuddies Tips...

For Making Your Pets More Comfortable While you are Away

In addition to employing a professional pet sitter (or using a reliable family member or friend) to care for your pet while you are away, here are some suggestions for ensuring your pet's well-being:

  • Consider leaving an article of your much-worn clothing (bathrobe, old sweater) where your pet likes to nap. Your scent will give your pet a feeling of comfort and security.

  • Leave on a radio/TV or program on a timer. I suggest music or talk that is soothing and calming.

  • If your pet can have treats, consider hiding treats/toys where your pet can find unexpected delights.

  • If at all possible, keep food, treats, litter (for cats) the same. Do not use this away time to change anything about your pets routine. If in doubt, consult your veterinarian.

Keeping your pet on his/her normal routine will, in itself, provide a feeling of security and continuity.
